Quest For a Home
This documentary delves into the evocative world of Mir Suhail, blending his poetic interviews with captivating visuals of his artwork and the streets of Kashmir. Through candid reflections, Mir shares deeply personal stories, including a haunting childhood memory: “Every night, I run through the street with my mother while the entire neighborhood is on fire. When I told my mother about this recurring dream, she revealed it was a real event from my childhood—the military had set our neighborhood ablaze.”
This traumatic event shaped Mir’s artistic identity, influencing his signature use of black and red in his cartoons. Although he cannot return to his homeland, the camera journeys through the picturesque yet conflicted valley of Kashmir, offering glimpses of the life Mir left behind.
Now residing in New York, Mir channels his longing into his art, creating a symbolic bridge between his new reality and the home he yearns for. “No matter where I live in the world, I will always draw for Kashmir. That is my place,” he affirms. This film is not just a tribute to Mir’s resilience but also an exploration of identity, memory, and the enduring power of art in exile
