Director: Ken Abalos & Ash Meshkati

From a Distance

Director: Nishan Arangala

A red light glows faintly in the protagonist's chest as he stands motionless, whispering lyrics to a song as storm clouds gather and rain falls. A girl whispers the truth while circling him. Uncertain whether it is a dream, a memory, or an echo from another world, he finds himself sitting in a vast, water-covered emptiness and gazing at a massive portrait of her. Ripples around him form patterns that hint at perception and the multiverse.

His mind drifts through fragmented realities where memory melds with illusion. One vision has the girl happily playing retro games, holding a heart-shaped lollipop, her smile unreadable. The game screen shows his face, dissolving the difference between player and played as reality bends and city lights dissolve. Scattered portraits of the girl echo alternate lives and imagined timelines.

Somewhere else, she sat quietly drawing a smiling face on misted glass, while her own face was heavy with tears. Time bends; a tear crawls back into her eye as if grief were reversing. Meanwhile, the boy stands in relentless rain. His glowing chest ebbs from red to blue—two souls separated into different realities, bound by a link slowly undone through time and memory.

Human Layers

In this film, I explore how humans act differently in various contexts—how our behavior shifts depending on the environment, whether at work, with loved ones, or in solitude. The story follows a couple navigating their routine lives, both together and apart, revealing the raw and often unspoken moments when they can truly express themselves, free from societal norms or expectations.

To reflect the absurdity and fragility of life, I chose simple outline shapes with a limited color palette. This minimalistic approach emphasizes the vulnerability of human existence and the complexities of human relationships. Through these visuals, I delve into the balance between how much a couple should share with each other and how much they should hide. What do they reveal when they’re alone? How do they behave differently when together? And what are the guilty pleasures they secretly share?

This film is a reflection on the quiet moments that define us, and how, even in the most ordinary of routines, we are constantly negotiating who we are and how we present ourselves to the world.

Iloveyou, Iloveyou, Iloveyou (...)

Director: boy princess

In a distant world ruled by a queer dictatorship, a non-binary couple’s decision to marry challenges societal norms, blurring the lines of gender and love in a universe where inversions are the norm and limitations are mere illusions.

Jackie Is Lost

Jackie is forced out of retirement as she struggles with the cost of living, and she begins work at a storage unit facility. On her first day, Jackie loses her way and is tormented by a shadow.

As the film explores Jackie’s isolation, loneliness, memory, and age, we begin to wonder how real the unsettling environment of the storage unit truly is.

Ray the Rug

Director: Mohammad Ali Shakeri

Ray shares his tragic past: “I lost my mum when I was a wee cub. Well, I didn’t lose her. She was murdered… by a human.” His heartfelt plea, “A tiger can’t change its stripes. But you can,” transforms him from a symbol of loss into a powerful advocate for change. The film’s simple, innovative visuals and direct messaging cut through the noise, resonating with audiences, driving over a million views within first view weeks. This campaign showcases the power of creativity to inspire action and highlights urgent need to save one of the world’s most iconic species.

Director: Roshani Bhundia

Spring of Deception

Directors: Annika White & Carl Knight

Spring of Deception is our reflection on the evanescent nature of life as we know it in an increasingly uncertain modern age. We are witnessing the destruction of the natural world, the threat of AI and the disconnect between what we want for our future and what the government and corporations have forced upon us. The nonstop taking from the earth and its inhabitants without giving in return. The placing of profit above humanity.
